As a matter of fact. The main driving force behind the Rel A right now is, whoelse, the Koreans. And the main reason is not that much on 307kbps, but rather simultaneous voice and data capability.

Of course Rel A provides a little improvement as far as speed concerns with new type of Mux PDU, but the improvement is at best a little over 10 percent. The overall throughput will be pretty much the same.

On the U.S. side it is still not clear that when will Rel A in the play and there seems to be no one in a hurry.

Therefore it is understandable to see Koreans are the one making the most noise right now. And there's really no reason for them to give in anything to those who are sitting outside and doing nothing.

If we just look at the sync channel issue itself, it is really not that a big deal. It has nothing to do with all the new features(heck even the old features) that need to be developed. The only thing matters is that it will make the process a little more complicated, and that process benefit no one in Korea, where the only land is serious in doing Rel A. Nobody is willing to pay the price for something that is not their fault.
