and not very many sons of janitors became successful executives.

Can you name anywhere else in the world where this is a more realistic possibility than in America?

"not one son of a successful professional in America became a successful janitor"

But tons of them become drug adicts and society's drop outs because their dad's spent more time making money than they did raising their families.

"Who you are and where you start counts more than anything else in the success ladder in America"

Where you start is a big factor. I hold people that traveled the furhtest on their own in the highest regard. Bob Marley is probably my favorite in this regard. Plenty of business examples too. I've seen examples of people who sacraficed a lot and made it on their own. Your theory is simplistic and fatalistic. If you think you can't make it without connections, you certainly will not make it. Not saying that about you specifically, but in general you have to believe you can make it or you will not.

"Bush and Co are wrecking that as well"

He encourages success imo. That his adversaries can't hear it or see it is baffling to me.

haven't you've heard the saying: "from shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations"?

By the way, you'd be surprised who's sons have at least worked as janitors. For those who make it their life's work, being a janitor is probably most related to one's level of education. And on that point, IMHO, the United States, is one of the few countries where the level of education one receives is mostly a function of intelligence and desire (and not social standing). I do agree though, that where one starts, has alot to do with where one at starts on the ladder of success.
