The right to speak freely and a free press are one of the fundamental rights in our country. Of course, we all agree with this. However, I truly don't remember the ugliness, in-your-face-contentiousness as has been true in the last 10 years... Even during the Nixon Watergate scandal....

We teach our children that politeness matters, and that is very true on this board as well....so when one looks around, and sees snarling and bickering....it becomes very apparent.

Skepticism is practiced here on a daily basis. Bombastic lying skullduggery isn't allowed.

I believe more of our citizens would have a better understanding of the issues, and the government, if the media could just control their excess accusations and innuendo.

Skepticism, a free press doing its investigative job right, and the demand for openness in government are necessary elements of restraint that keep our government from turning to tyranny.
