Anybody...somebody...even closet lurkers invited...

Sounds desperate, right? Are we all feeling that down on the market to post?

I have a general interest question that may generate some comments.

We have seen darn little M&A activity and that puzzles me. With stock prices for so many companies down in the real deep bunkers, why have some of them not been snapped up by others with ready cash?

On the one hand we've seen a good many firms announcing buybacks, which means they rather think their own shares are good values. That they have not been buying other firms suggests they don't think the other guys are good bargains.

Anyone else have some thoughts on this?
