Feed and provide opportunity to people who receive nothing from their corrupt regimes and you'll show the true meaning of what the American system represents. Increase the presence of NGO and Peace Corps volunteers in the Muslim world, in particular Africa. Children in this country go to bed hungry, have no opportunity or medical care. Yet people here are up in arms at the suggestion of helping them. Where's the money to help these others going to come from? Charity begins at home.

If I can step in here, I opine we require a multi-pronged and long-term approach, much of what we seem to be starting to implement.

I agree with a great deal of this. Thanks, Hawk.

As you might guess from our previous exchanges, I would narrow your first point about hunting down "militant Islam," to Al Q and might throw in something about global terrorism. But that's my only major disagreement.

.) Military.. The US can NOT be seen as weak in the face of militant Islam. We have to be seen as willing to hunt them down where ever they are, and to exert whatever pressure required upon the governments sheltering them.

There is one other thing, I think, that we must not do. We must not allow ourselves to be baited into a position where we are occupying hostile territory, or any situation that can be converted into a war of attrition. We have an offensive military force that is impossible to oppose, but once it goes static and takes on the role of an occupier it becomes very vulnerable.

This is a role that the Islamic militants badly want to coax us into, IMO, and we have to be smart enough to avoid it. We should not embark on military ventures without a clear exit strategy.
