Novellus Expects to Miss Guidance
Thursday August 29, 5:05 pm ET

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Reuters) - Novellus Systems Inc.(NasdaqNM:NVLS - News) , a maker of semiconductor production equipment, said on Thursday it expected to report lower-than-expected earnings, revenue and orders for the third-quarter, citing order delays by two customers.

"The outlook is very, very murky and the general feeling tends to be negative rather than positive," Chief Executive Richard Hill said.

In a mid-quarter update, Novellus said it expected orders of $220 million, or possibly as low as $200 million, compared to earlier guidance of $250 million. The company also said it expected third-quarter revenue of $230 million, and would report break-even results.

The company had previously indicated that it expected revenue of $250 million and earnings of 2 cents a share.
