Dell's `BMW-a-Day' Giveaway Puts Customers In Driver's Seat
Thirty-Two Cool Customers Will Each Drive Away in One Hot Car
Thursday August 29, 11:01 am ET

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 2002--Dude, you're getting some wheels.

Dell (Nasdaq:DELL - News) today announced the final installment of its back-to-school sweepstakes, the "BMW-A-Day" Giveaway. Starting Friday, customers who purchase desktop or notebook computers through Sept.30 will automatically be entered in a national sweepstakes(a). Every day one grand-prize winner receives a 2003 BMW 330i automobile valued at more than $41,000. The September sweepstakes follows a similar giveaway in July when 30 Dell customers won $50,000 each, and in August when 29 customers each won $50,000 in travel and cash.

"Customers have overwhelmingly responded to our sweepstakes the first two months, but we think the car giveaway will be the best," said Erin Nelson, director of acquisition marketing for Dell's U.S. consumer business. "How cool would it be to drive to work or college in a brand new Beemer? We want to thank our loyal customers for helping make Dell America's favorite computer," said Nelson.

For more information on the sweepstakes, including how to enter, visit www.dell4me.com/sweepstakes. Also on the Web site is a list of customers who won prizes in the July and August sweepstakes.

In August, thousands of customers registered to win travel and cash prizes.

For two sweepstakes winners the timing could not have been better. Twenty-three year old Phil Hickman, who bought a loaded Dell Dimension 4500S and works on his family farm in Horntown, Va., is planning his Caribbean honeymoon in October with the travel prize. At first he couldn't believe he won. "It's pretty exciting," said Hickman. "Stuff like this doesn't happen to me."

Mary Alice Cackler, who is a freshman English major at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, just set up her Dimension 4500 in her dorm for schoolwork and entertainment. Cackler is still deciding what to do with her travel and cash prize and said, "I'm still in shock about it."
