16:38 ET SUNW Sun Microsystems says no improvement in IT spending environment (3.83 -0.13)
During mid-qtr update, says it has seen no improvement in IT spending environment, and notes some would say it has even worsened... expects fiscal Q1 revenues will now be closer to the bottom end (i.e. closer to 15%) of the 10-15% sequential decline range it previously provided, plus or minus a small amount... sees no significant change in gross margin rate or operating expense spending level versus Q4.

On its call, company says corporate spending has been very slow, but Q3 is seeing a slight uptick. Consumer spending has slowed and is more than offsetting the uptick on the corporate side... stock at 23.70.

prgne... not bad at all, the whole restatement over 11 qtr is 250mm, involving factoring receivables, the $$ figure is lower than expectations and the fraud lawsuit overhang is lessened. Also no bk. The stock is going to be delisted for a few mos though because my sources say Oct until the global audit is done. Stock up AH even with delisting.

Peregrine acknowledged Thursday that it took out loans against its accounts receivable and then counted that money as sales. Management said the company has restructured about $103 million of those loans, so that it can now pay them off over four years.

<<..."As the weak IT spending picture weighs on the sector, Sun is also challenged by several company-specific issues," wrote J.P. Morgan analyst Bill Shope. "We believe that Sun continues to grapple with a core market slowdown and increasing competition."

In the low-end, Sun is facing a threat from the Microsoft-Linux industry standard server vendors, such as Dell, he told clients. The threat is starting to creep up into the midrange Unix server market, where pricing competition is fierce. In the high end, Sun faces off with IBM and Hewlett-Packard (HPQ: news, chart, profile)...>>
