From your link, Nadine:

Since last November, US forces have transformed Al Udeid into a state-of-the-art facility with one of the longest runways in the Middle East, at 14,760 feet, and a base that can accommodate up to 120 fighter jets. It is now home to the 319th Air Expeditionary Group. Fighter/bomber aircraft and air-to-air refueling KC-10 and KC-135 tankers and JSTARS reconnaissance aircraft currently operate there in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch. It also has air force construction engineers and a smattering of army personnel.

In addition to the air base at Al Udeid, Qatar houses a tremendous complex of warehouses in which M1 tanks are stored as well as other equipment.

In a word, Qatar is critical to any offensive against Saddam.

Recently, reports have been made that the Qatar government, essentially controlled by the royal family, has refused to allow Qatar to be used as a launching base for an attack.

This will be a substantial and critical loss should the refusal be a real one.

Hi Nadine Carroll; From the same source:

Seven fallacies of US plans to invade Iraq
atimes.com

The article brings no new news to the table, I'm afraid. But if it makes you happier, are you now insisting that there will be war with Iraq before the end of November, as the Israelis were told? If so, I'd be glad to remind you of this on December 1st.

Uh, mobilized reserves are still dropping, but now at a higher rate than before. See #reply-17933884 I guess that means that the war with Iraq must almost be over now.
