Taxes and fees represent revenue to the government. Programs and rebates are expenses. A government will not survive long unless the revenues and expenses balance each other out eventually. washingtonpost.com Junior has erred so far on the revenue side, and increases spending to boot (Please take note that the Republican's control the House so any attempt to argue that it's not Junior's spending fault is a lie). The net result is that the country is getting weaker day by day regardless of how furiously Junior shakes his fist at the enemy of the day. His tax fraud at Harken energy is now playing out as a national fraud on trust and security. TP

"The 16th Amendment, in 1913, allowed for an income tax, and in 1943, Congress authorized withholding tax on wages. " The story of how that was rammed through and constantly lied about is in Twight's "Dependent on DC". The highest gov't officials of both parties chimed in, simply to increase the power of gov't. Twight documents how the shameless use of "national security" was bandied about even after the war was over, while in the conference rooms we now know they were actually saying, "how can we extract the most tax with the least rebellion?". Twight goes into detail on how Soc. Security was incrementally transformed from insurance to non-insurance, and still called that by those who know full well there isn't any sort of "insurance" provision about it. The unaccountable lies of Congress, the administration and bureacrats are the disease that we must overcome if any control over gov't power is to survive. There is nothing in the positions of either major party to indicate any intention to reduce the all-powerful central government. To the contrary, only individuals with small voices such as McCain and Ron Paul make such points, fruitlessly so far. The Twight book is required reading for anyone interested in how the gov't enslaves citizens and removes their participation.
