It makes a lot of sense to me. If I still had kids in high school, I would want them to have a cell phone.

As a matter of fact, I just replaced my 2 old 5190 Nokia phones that I had for my wife and I the past 2 years. I bought 4 new 3395 Nokia phones from Cingular along with a family plan for my son and daughter-in-law.

I am very happy with the new plan and phones. Now any of the 4 of us can reach each other at any time. Also, I can't say enough good things about the new Nokia phones. The sound quality of the ear piece is outstanding - better than the phones in the house. Also the phones will run for 4 full days, 24 hours a day without recharging. On top of that, the phone is "half" the size of the old phones. Now I can carry it in my shirt pocket if I want to.
