Like the man who could walk a sidewalk 1 foot wide without falling but move that between two skyscrapers a thousand feet up, he falls? Perception is a powerful lens and as such promotes a necessarily false view of the world. But a false perception is one that can be tested by freeing oneself of their preconceived notions and looking at the data. I think it is a noble goal, but not too many even try.

But what you are saying is we're in control if we believe we're in control.

But what I'm saying is, what if we're not in control AT ALL. What if we are simply the output of some controlling mind, just like the letters that appear on the screen as I type. It doesn't matter what they think about themselves, or how they react to themselves as the words I type, they have NO control.

Perhaps jla is totally programmed to be who he is, and has absolutely no control whatsoever of what he says. That would explain why he says so many things that obviously make him miserable.
