The gist of it is that we're making the Syrians very very nervous. The Saudis, too.

They have a lot more to fear from Saddam than they do from us.

If the Syrians had a lick of sense, they'd lay low and wait for Saddam to be rendered irrelevant. Their own position would be strengthened after he is gone at absolutely no cost to them.
