All OT. Kodiak, it may not be a boring day for Jim when every penny that PGO drops or rises changes his portfolio value by over 5k. I vote for rises for both altruistic and selfish reasons since Jim keeps propping up and I can't buy more really, really cheaply. g.

Re the Yankees. Have you ever noticed that those that are doing well like things just the way they are and will scream like stuck pigs when things turn against them? In the practice of law I found that there was no whinier-"there's not enough money in the world to fairly compensate me"-injured party than a previously anti-plaintiff person who was seriously injured as a result of someone else's neglect themselves. Circumstances seem to have a way of changing ones perceptions of fairness.

Finally, the quote of the year in my opinion:

"It might be interesting to wonder why all the generals see it in the same way, and all those, who never fired a shot in anger and really held back to go to war, see it in a different way. That's usually the way it is in history."

From General Zinni as introduced in the following quote:

"Attacking Iraq now will cause a lot of problems," Zinni told members of the Florida Economic Club. "If you ask me my opinion, General Scowcroft, General Powell, General Schwarzkopf, General Zinni -- maybe all see this the same way."

Who do you think he meant when he said,"and all those..who never fired a shot in anger and really held back to go to war." Could that have been Rumsfeld, Bush, and Cheney? g. Ed

As a long suffering transplanted White Sox fan, who spent his early teens in frustration over repeated 2nd place finishes, and 2-1 and 1-0 losing end Billy Pierce vs.Whitey Ford duels, I would love to see the Yankees knocked down a peg or two. However, lets face it, bb has now become something of a welfare state (take from the rich, give to the poor) justified on the basis that bb is too much a part of what makes America, America, to let it fail. Not too much different than propping up the cattle industry with virtually unfettered use of public lands in the West to keep the Old West, cowboy image alive, and propping up ag (although the greatest beneficiary is large scale agri-business hiding behind the mom and pop, Willie Nelson, Farm Aid image).

bb is probably one place where a bit of "welfare" is probably necessary to keep it alive--and an example where pure free enterprise doesn't work, because the ultimate outcome would be the demise of the enterprise.

Back On T, I've been keeping my powder dry. I seem to have my best batting ave. in the high volatility, bottoming environment. I look at the current market as drifting too randomly for my taste. Looking for the bounce off bottom opportunities and been watching RSH for a ST play, but it just keeps drifting lower, and retail, esp. electronics, is weak. In no hurry.
