at some point, there may have to be laws that force people to take mass transit or carpool

How do you square a remark such as this with the liberals' purported support of personal freedom?

Why don't you solve the traffic problem by requiring married couples to have only one child, and any pregnancy after the first child would be subject to forced abortion?

Ted, <there may have to be laws that force people to take mass transit or carpool.>

The most effective way to "encourage" people is by letting the price of gas rise. Of course, that puts a real damper on the economy. The "little peeple" also get it in the shorts, while the fat cats (both liberals and conservatives) continue to fly their private jets.

<I have to wonder if there is a correlation between the growing obesity in this country and our traffic crisis.>

Personally, I think the digital revolution has done much more to contribute to obesity than our love of cars.
