Something has indeed changed In Sysmark

Sysmark 2001 gave the AthWipe 1.6GHz a score of 215.

Sysmark 2002 gave the same processor a score of 220.

Thanks for pointing out the difference and demonstrating the increase, even though small for this process.

On the other hand, the Intel 2GHz increased from 213 to 282. But Intel introduced new technology with the Northwood processor including the 400 MHz bus, now up to 533 MHz.

Intel continues to introduce new technology and increase performance. At the same time AMD stands still. No wonder that AMD is "angry" about the Sysmark benchmark. It accurately exposes their inept performance as technology advance.

Steve, Re: "It's obvious the benchmark was changed."

It is obvious that it has changed. They changed the name, didn't they? They changed some of the applications, didn't they? The whitepaper describes changes in the testing methodology, too.

The real issue is whether the changes accurately reflect the usage model that Bapco wanted to implement, or was special treatment given to Intel's implementations? Like Burn2learn suggested, I believe that AMD's absence in the committee prevented them from having a say in how the benchmark is put together. As a result, more of Intel's suggestions made it into the final revision. Now that AMD has a presence, SysMark 2003 might implement a few more scripts and filters that favor the AMD platform.
