Once Iraq is pacified and a friendly government installed, Syria and Iran both will be between a wall and hard place. Iran will be squeezed between US and Afghanstan. Syria will be squeezed between Israel, and Iraq, and Turkey. The invasion of Iraq is "conditio sine qua non" for any lasting peace in the Middle East. Once Iraq is gone, Syria, Palestinians and above all Iran will both draw conclusions. Indirectly invasion of Iraq will serve as a lesson for the rest of Arab States, and will send a strong message to Saudi Arabia; you get out of line and we will not heistate to seize the oilfields!!(you keep Macca, Madina and the camels!) In case of Syria, it is clear that Israel has no terroriral claim in Syria, but it can break the back of Syirian armed forces and weaken young Assad and his Alivites grip on power. Assad knows that a deafeat at the hand of Israel, also could well mean the end of his regime. On 22nd of August, Syrian Army Headquarters issued an order to all the Syrian troops stationed in Baaka valley "not to respond to any Israeli air attack !" It means that they realize their weakness, and fear of being provoked into a war that they can only loose. In the past, when 2000 syrian tanks were destroyed in Golan front, there were Sovietst that were ready to replace them. What happend if their oboslete T-55, and T-72's are destoryed? There will be no replacment. The only card the Syrians have is using Hezballh. Therefore, I fully agree that both Lebense and Syrians have to watch-out!
