Hi ehasfjord,

Just as "higher ed" is fragmented into many similar needs, but each university is a small component of the quite large total need - a very similar situation exists with retail dealerships.Ford, GM, Chrysler, all use very similar Financial reporting statements. The need collectively is huge - but break it down to individual dealers and the price is prohibitive.

If and when Orcl can offer "canned web based services" to these similar but smaller customer bases a widespread spending boom of IT (both hardware and software) will occur.

I don't blame Orcl for picking all the big accounts first - that's economically smart.

To say you'll master the smaller applications is highly risky.None the less, there is a large need for that aggressive kind of thinking. If Orcl targeted the largest demands within the many industries and "took them on",they could get a very good and aggressive reputation.Much like EDS had when Ross Perot pioneered the firm.
