electra, you will have a hard time to find a good deal in Alameda. Alameda has been one of the nice little places that most of the people in the bay area did not know about, but this has changed during the last 2 years. Since the naval base was shut town, this town had a tremendous revival and property values has shot quite a lot. I'd guess that you have to put down 450K for a house there.
