When I was just a little kid, one of the surgeons at the nearby hospital "accidentally" left a pair of forceps inside a patient during an operation. The lawyers couldn't believe their luck.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, a short time after that, a different team at the very same hospital sewed somebody back up with an OR towel in their chest cavity. Ooooops.

Nothing like a dose of reality when you're 8 about how incompetent even highly educated grown-ups can be. Probably explains why I've never suffered from the common delusion that doctors are some kind of race of Gods. It also probably explains why I don't believe people like Greenspan are economic superheros either
