on the road with Mountain Mike... sounds good
I have done a small amount of sampling of american opinion on the road also
planning to do much more
a very bright night gas station operator in Poconos talked
I was halfway, 300 miles out, in need of leg stretching, back stretching, and a drain of the main vein
he was eager to talk, since almost midnight and alone
he was frustrated about losing a telecom job in south shore of Boston a year ago
he is doing well in Poconos with a Sunoco station
I really appreciated the spotless bathroom, which is very important to a young man these days
we had a good laugh when I complimented on the bathroom cleanliness
he said the following...

I dont know what numbers to trust, either the companies reporting for their stocks or the govt on the economy
they all seem phoney
all they care about is themselves, and preserving power
and besides, many seem to be hiding bad stuff here & there
when I pick up a dollar, I dont know what it stands for anymore
[I told him it stood for a dollar credited debt]
he said he would not invest in stocks again anytime soon
he didnt trust much of anything in "that world"
he lost his job with Verizon after big cutbacks
he was frustrated but had a contented manner about him
[maybe because he is in the Pocono region, forests, resorts, etc]
he said business was ok, just ok, some tourism, not tons
he is nervous about the world situation in every sense
politics, economy, stock market, pensions, mideast, iraq
and doesnt think the leaders are up to the task at all
he thinks all hell might break loose before long, that terrorists might play something out in anniversary, that leaders dont seem to get it about citizen anger and disgust with the leaders themselves
nice guy, about 40's
I almost asked him for a free Peppermint Patty

just one man's opinion
he was clearly bigger than the job he manages
maybe he is just biding time, like many others

Mikey, if you have a dog named Charlie, that would be too much
keep sampling opinions, and I will do the same
I like to strike up conversations with unsuspecting folks
mostly curiosity, some actual caring, tiny boredom, and more loneliness than I admit
