I couldn't find any numbers as high as Shepard's, but these are bad enough.

Yet the more disinterested Gallup poll of Middle-Easterners apparently reveals that roughly three-quarters of Kuwaitis (72%) do not much like the United States. Nearly as many Middle Easterners in general (61%) subscribe to the lunatic view that Arab terrorists were not responsible for the murders of Sept. 11.

Gallup's poll of 9,924 adults in nine Muslim countries found that the U.S. image there is akin to approval ratings of Enron executives here. Only about 1 in 5 residents of Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey have favorable opinions of the United States, Gallup concluded, while 53 percent have unfavorable views.

The Zogby poll was taken after a Gallup survey showed mostly negative attitudes toward America and American values in the Arab and Muslim world. The findings were released by the Zogby brothers at a breakfast with reporters. James Zogby served as a political analyst on the report and the Arab American Institute provided financial support for the survey.

Views were mixed regarding American democracy and freedom. There was majority disapproval only in Iran and Indonesia. However, substantial minorities disapproved in Egypt (38 percent), Saudi Arabia (44 percent), Kuwait (39 percent), Lebanon (40 percent) and the UAE (44 percent).
