"In a sign that Bertelsmann AG's new management has all but abandoned the media group's e-commerce aspirations, the company decided to sell its main online-book businesses and held preliminary discussions with Amazon.com Inc., people familiar with situation said.

The sale would involve bol.com, Bertelsmann's main e-commerce outlet, which sells books and music in Europe and Asia and has annual sales of about €90 million ($88.6 million)."
