"We're all seeing the same set of facts but are coming to different conclusions about motive." It sounds like you are trying to divine Brimelow's motives, and then apply them to what he wrote in order to determine the meaning. I take a different approach. I try not to concern myself with his motives. I try to read what he wrote without adding to or subtracting anything from it. That is the only way I have any hope of finding out what he meant without contaminating it with my previously held point of view.
