Depends on where the sword is located FL, and with whom. All I can say, is everyone ought to give this a test when talking to friends and colleagues....funny thing is, it becomes clear right away.

And I have to admit, I've even read some of Chomsky's pieces...something I never thought I'd do. Sounds like there are some, even here, that will only read what they want to hear... sad as that is.

Some of us don't have any of the answers. It's hard to formulate (or discuss) a pragmatic policy when most of the hard data has yet to be revealed publicly. We're told "we know", or we're given evidence of things done 6 or 12 years ago, and a mass of media speculation & editorial positioning arises from that.

I do know that a certain way of proceeding by our government can build or maintain legitimacy for the choices that will be made, and I mean legitimacy for the whole concept of democracy.

However, a lot of the resulting speculation arises from wishful thinking about Iraq's future government. I'm not sure the administration has indicated it seeks a democratic government for Iraq at all. It's use of the narrow term "regime change" suggests it'll settle for far less than that. Perhaps another strongman, but our strongman, is all they seek.
