The Saudis only, really, they were terrified of a Shia entity on their northern border, though Prince Bandar kept reassuring us that Saddam was a-goner. Now they are just terrified of instability bringing them down. But they are hoist on their own petard, if we retreat, Al Qaeda will probably get them. All the other Gulf states would rather have Saddam gone, but who wants to invite the hurricane into the neighborhood?

The "said it, gotta do it" argument rises again.

It is unfortunately a very real consideration. That old credibility thing. You deterrence can't deter if nobody believes you.
