Pakistani troops have taken up positions near a village in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan in a search for six suspected al Qaeda militants thought to be hiding in the region, officials said on Tuesday.

Hundreds of soldiers were stationed near the village of Jani Kheil where tribesmen were suspected of giving sanctuary to members of Osama bin Laden's militant group, a senior local official said.

He said the standoff began on Monday and local people had said five of the men were thought to be Saudia Arabian or Indonesian.

Govt issues ultimatum to tribesmen

PESHAWAR: Paramilitary troops have issued an ultimatum to Pakistani tribesmen near the border with Afghanistan to hand over four "foreigners" or face an armed assault, officials said Tuesday.

Authorities have been negotiating with tribesmen at Bannu since Monday when the four were apprehended at a paramilitary checkpoint.

I've read Zachary's web site. A peace with the Iraqi people is not only possible but preferable. However, it will have to be a peace without Hussein and his family. It can be no other way. Too many attacks in the US have links to Iraq.
