The real concern of the Palestinians is what the Israeli government will do when the US attacks Iraq. The results of the violence have completely destroyed their economy already and continued violence will make things worse. In the wake of a US Iraqi attack, Israel could completely destroy any remnants of a Palestinian authority and kick Arafat and his gang of thugs out of the territories.

I think your "enemies...peacemakers" view is unrealistic. Peace usually comes when there is a clear victor and vanquished. The PA has not been attacked in Gaza, but they have no interest in confronting Hamas. The real death knell of your scenario is that, contrary to pronouncements of your hero and his amoral administration, there are no "moderate Arabs" who can be trusted to make real peace.
