here is the greenspan quote i referred to (and referred to, and referred to...) when i said Greenspan is on the record saying he could guarantee stopping the stock bubble by raising margin rates. the quote is from the 1996 FOMC minutes (and quoted by Fleck tonight). keep in mind that this is what the idiot greenspan said all the way back in 1996, before he became a full-fledged fan of the bubble (and started pretending it didn't exist).

"I recognize that there is a stock market bubble problem at this point. . . . We do have the possibility of raising major concerns by increasing margin requirements. I guarantee that if you want to get rid of the bubble, whatever it is, that will do it."
