Tippet, alright fess up you have a crush on Martha don't you? -g- ho ho ho . Martha is a high profile scape goat the gov't decided to make an example of her to demonstrate to the public that no one is above the law ( not true) but that's the illusion they want to create. She also messed up by no cooperating with the investigation - she tried to BS them. The public is mad as hell and they want revenge. mike

<<What I don't like about the MS thing is the element of selective prosecution and what amounts to envy by some ... >>

her wealth and position are/were based on her 'fame'. so why should she not suffer the downside of said fame?

yes, it is obvious that the AG's are after high-profile defendants, to trick the populace into thinking they are actually doing something about it. tough friggin' luck.

<<but no one does--better off not to "live well" at all than to steal>>

tell that to the kids of that laid-off auto worker in Lansing. better yet, tell that to the most gifted player on my baseball team; he wears glasses to school but doesn't wear them to play (and seriously hurts his performance) 'cause he can't risk breaking them as his mom is on strike today asking for a wage of higher than $9.55 an hour to clean up the offices of big-shot portfolio managers and lawyers in downtown Boston. tell them that Martha Stewart, rich beyond anybody's wildest dreams, is a waste to put in jail 'cause she only stole a couple of hundred g's.

Cheers

As I said in my previous post, the problem isn't the lousy 4000 shares of IMCL she dumped, the problem is the MASSIVE INSIDER SELLING by herself and other MSO insiders knowing the Sh*t was going to hit the fan and hurt her precious reputation and thus the stock price. For that, she deserves to lose her "empire" and go to jail IMO.

Whether it's making an "example" of her or not, she knew what she was doing selling MSO, and got out at a much more advantageous price on inside information. Her selling also confirms (at least to me) that she KNEW she had illegally sold the IMCL stock by her actions of selling MSO so heavily. Bottom line, She committed FRAUD, and on a larger scale than initially portrayed. She even tried to do the sale "privately." Have a look:

<<<< Stewart kicked off insider sales of her own company's stock on Jan. 8 when she sold 3 million shares in a private undisclosed sale. >>>> --------------

<<<<the company's stock was trading publicly at over $19 per share at the time.>>>>> --------------

<<<<Martha Stewart Living insiders sold about 5.3 million shares,
making more than $79 million in illegal profits and avoiding losses they would have
suffered if the public had known in advance about investigations into Stewart's sale of
ImClone stock.>>>
