I had edited my second response, so you might have missed my point. You would maintain that when all needs are met, then peace prevails? That just isn't the case unless they share a common metaphysical viewpoint.

What makes people want these things? All the things you named were commodity items. Most wars weren't fought over having access to cheaper tea or spice. Not in this century. Look at South Africa. Economic or metaphysical? I think its metaphysical - alien whites didn't deserve their place according to alien blacks and vice versa - neither group is native to the area, but through complex process (largely involving a complicated and parochial world view held by one side or the other) neither acheived the same degree of satisfaction with their place in the world. Right and wrong don't have a lot to do with it.

Kick the whites out of power, replace it with democracy and one man-one vote and peace prevails? Not true -- now it's time to settle old scores based upon the time-tested method of us and them. Same in Ireland.
