Great post HJ. Nobody loved the bubble more than the politicians in Washington -- it was like Christmas every day. Free money for everyone -- and all those difficult discussions about how to spend all the money that was flooding into Washington! What a difference 24 months makes:

"As stock prices rose, capital gains taxes filled the coffers of local and federal governments in America. With all the extra money, politicians could increase spending while cutting taxes. And they did it as if the revenue growth were permanent"

Perhaps losing the election was the best thing that ever happened to Gore and the Democrats -- they can always talk about the "good times" when they were running the show!
