General public expects DOW below 5000; NASDAQ at 1000.

Everyone is expecting the Dow and NASDAQ to go down, and a large portion are indicating expectations of the DOW to go below 5000. Some very bearish are saying that it could even go to 3000.

A couple of interesting extracts from that report.

With the Thoroughbred Athlon XP 2700+ and later Barton-based products, AMD estimated that 900,000 FSB 333MHz-supporting Athlon XP processors will have reached the market by year-end.

Should be good for the bottom line in Q4, given the 333 FSB systems will be relatively high ASP.

AMD said it is planning a series of marketing campaigns, hoping to further raise consumer awareness of what it claims as true performance.

More invisible marketing campaigns?

Re: Barton-core Athlon XP on market in October

If this being produced at UMC, it's really good news. Once AMD can source 32-bit processors from UMC they can go to 100% Hammer production at Dresden, and quickly establish X86-64 as the default mainstream platform for serious computing.

It would also put AMD back into the multiple CPU FAB category in time for any recovery in demand, next year.

re: AMD Barton-core Athlon XP on market in October

Unfortunately, there is nothing in this article to support that headline. All we learn is that the Barton is due sometime after October 7 and before January 1.

I wonder what frequency the 2700 supposed to run at. With a brand-new process, a brand-new partner/fab and a larger cache, I will be surprised if barton debuts at a frequency higher than the (relatively mature) Thoroughbred B. Maybe the much vaunted SOI will compensate somewhat
