However...... >>You must realize that Israel is the only Democracy in that region of the world and, for this reason alone, Israel is a vital strategic area for the United States...<< Firstly,Palistine( as it is) is also a democracy, with elections upcoming at the end of this year.It surely isn't the same open democracy we enjoy, but another democracy, none the less. Secondly, Israel is not a fully fledged democracy as we in the West know it.There are restrictions placed on certain ethnic groups that would not be acceptable in our cultures.Being the only semblance of a democracy in the ME does give it credence over the other forms of rule that the West does embrace from an ideological perspective,but it would be an oversight to suggest this is the only reason it is given so much support.It's strategic interests also lie in the fact that it can act somewhat as a proxy for other US ,and other's, interests in the region. I fully support Israel as a non secular, non expansionist, fully Westernized democracy that adheres to international law. >> don't substitute peace for appeasement at any price, those Arab countries want you murdered nonetheless,<<< Islamic extremists want you murdered.However, they have an influence to propagate hatred throughout the region, just as you yourself appear to propagate hatred towards them right here day after day.
