"All countries tend to intervene only when their strategic interests are involved, be them oil in Iraq, stability of western Europe in the case of Serbia or capturing a terrorist who just blew up downtown Manhattan in the case of Iraq."

Absolutely correct.

absolutely wrong! countries get dragged into war by all sorts of subversive elements. sure there is a strategic interest, like war-profiteering, but often not a strategic interest for the country as a whole. usually there is a strategic interest only for a few and they seek to convince the public through manipulation that there is a strategic interest for all.
