It might appear that way but that would not be exactly right. From what I read Kirk is extremely attractive, very good public speaker, fairly conservative for a Democrat (wooed the Dallas political establishment successfully which is no small feat for Dem) and, oh by the way, an African American, and beat a very well financed opponent in the Dem primary. I takes all that just to get as far as he has. But that makes him quite formidable.

It will be easy for Texas voters to see that Bush is not on the ballot. Moreover, the state tax cuts Bush put through have left the state with a very, very tight fiscal situation and cuts all around. That won't help the Republican in the Senate race.

I know. Not fair. Since we are talking about the Senate, not state government. But that's the way it goes.
