The small wars thesis is an interesting one. The problem would be in selling it to the American people especially when body bags start coming home. It isn't a great enough and big enough purpose, or does not seem like one, to fire people's imaginations. And the things that do fire people's imaginations, often should not be done. Empire. It is a tricky business. But it is probably better to be one, than to see one (especially coming after you).
