a new liberal moment

When I read this "Op-Ed", by Gitlin, a former "SDS" honcho, I thought, "Should I post this?" And then I thought, "Naah, lets see if Scott beats Win to publishing it." :^)

It is on the same subject that John has been unhappy about. The refusal of the Democrats to come out and attack Bush on this war, for fear of being called "Unpatriotic." Or even worse, losing votes. The left in this country is not ready to support a war of any kind, but they are afraid to come out and say so.

If Bush pushes Congress on this, they will have to vote, and I don't think they want to. They don't want to be put in a position of appearing to be against going after Terrorism. From a tactical political standpoint, it could be a great move by Bush just before the election.
