In most of Africa we having no compelling national interest and we are prepared to stand by while millions of people are killed in civil war. We do not act based primarily on principle with only a little concern for our national interest. On the contrary, we act mainly on the basis of national interest with only a little concern for principle -- but we market our efforts to the American public and the world as primarily driven by principle.
