Jacobo Arbenez Guzman? You mean Colonel Jacobo Arbenez Guzman? You realize of course, that Colonel Guzman was President because he was a member of the military coup that overthrew the previous government in 1944. Though (from what I read) President Guzman, was possibly an idealist, who became President upon the failure of another post revolutionary government. Of course, it seems that for Guatemala to even have an election was probably a step forward. But I'm not sure how much credit to an "elected" President when he was responsible for overthrowing his predecessor by military force.

Though I also wonder how true this statement is, Guatemala under Guzman, apparently was one of Che's first stops (after leaving Argentina) on his road to future revolutionary glory.
