The price of a loaf of bread in my neck of the woods has tacked on 10% plus this summer. Potato prices have also ballooned after the crop destruction of the past few years.

I expect all flour component foods and starch substitutes to catch up this fall, and that covers a lot of ground

Millionaires fair will feature the best of everything

A fair being staged exclusively for millionaires in Amsterdam will feature the best of everything.

Goods for sale will range from Bentley cars to designer suitcases, and from hand-made cigars to top notch food and drink.

There is enough space at the venue for 550 limousines, quay space to moor yachts and a heli-pad nearby.

The fair is being staged at the passenger terminal at Piet Heinquay in Amsterdam by glossy magazine Millionaire from November 22 to 24.

"You can compare the millionaires fair with a visit to Harrods," editor-in-chief Yves Gijrath told De Telegraaf.

"It's a fair where you can enjoy the finest luxurious things: Bentleys; Breitlings, Louis Vuitton suitcases and Prada shoes."

Exclusive Swiss watch firms such as Bulgari, Jaeger LeCoultre and Chopard have promised to send their best craftsmen to set up an exhibition.

Cigarmaker Hajenius is to build a traditional smokeroom for gentlemen while Louis Vuitton has promised to reveal a few secrets of the making of suitcases and candles.

Mr Gijrath said he doesn't see why the fair wouldn't be a success: "Especially when times are bad, millionaires want to show how well they are doing," he said.
