sg.news.yahoo.com

TOKYO, Sep 6 Asia Pulse - Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TSE:8035), Ebara Corp. (TSE:6361) and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co. (TSE:7735) said Thursday that at the end of September they will found a company to develop, make and sell next-generation semiconductor production equipment.
Their new firm will develop equipment to draw circuit patterns with electron beams. The direct-writing system will not require photomasks.

The joint venture, which will make use of basic technology licensed from Toshiba Corp. (TSE:6502), will aim to develop and begin marketing by fiscal 2005 equipment capable of drawing lines with a width of 65 nanometers.

The firm will be capitalized at 450 million yen (US$3.8 million). Tokyo Electron and Ebara will each have a 40 per cent stake, and Dainippon Screen will hold the other 20 per cent.
