Monday September 9, 8:50 am ET
FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 2002-- Xybernaut® Corporation (Nasdaq:XYBR - News) today announced the Atigo(TM) product family -- a new line of wearable computers designed for dual use as a wireless flat panel display (FPD) or a stand-alone Web-enabled tablet computer. Last week, Xybernaut announced a patent that covers a wide variety of potential applications and devices with dual-use flat panel display and thin client computing capabilities. The Atigo product family is covered under this patent.
The Atigo product family currently contains two products named Atigo and Atigo L. Both Atigo products support dual-use functions and are configured with built-in IEEE 802.11b WLAN wireless networking support through standard PC Card slots and feature a compact, all-light readable display.
Both Atigo products also incorporate Xybernaut display technologies that make Atigo one of the most versatile mobile-wireless product families for field force automation and related applications such as wireless/mobile sales support or customer relationship management.
Atigo products are built-to-order and can be readily customized to meet client needs. This customization can include design elements, such as use of corporate logos and colors, or configuration aspects, such as computing features and application support.
Atigo products have internal rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries with a run-time of approximately 4.0 - 4.5 hours (depending on the application) and 8.4-inch touch-screen enabled TFT displays with 800 x 600 SVGA resolution that are readable under all light conditions.
Both products also have multimedia features including a built-in 16-bit sound microphone/speaker and a stereo headphone jack; a host of accessory options including desktop charging cradle, AC charger, car charger, external battery pouch and wireless keyboard/mouse options; and a variety of soft-goods for wearability and ergonomics.
An add-on extended life battery, which doubles run-time, is also available as an accessory for the Atigo L.
"Atigo products offer more powerful and flexible platforms than typical mobile computing devices such as handheld PDAs, laptops and tablets," said Edward G. Newman, chairman, president and CEO of Xybernaut. "Atigo products were developed based on direct input from a broad array of Xybernaut customers. We expect to see Atigos deployed in numerous industry segments where seamless computing between mobile and centrally-located servers is beneficial."
Atigo L utilizes Windows® CE .NET and wireless communications through its built in CompactFlash (CF-IO) and PC card slots. Other standard features include an Intel® StrongARM SA-1110 processor with 64MB of SDRAM and 32MB of Flash ROM. The Atigo L includes multiple USB ports, one master port on board and one slave port (in docking cradle), which enable easier ActiveSync to other computers.
Atigo L is configured with the following software and applications: Pocket WordPad; Pocket Inbox; Pocket Internet Explorer 5.5; Microsoft Transcriber; PDF Viewer; Macromedia® Flash(TM) Player; and Microsoft Windows Media Player (providing support for MP3, WAV, AIFF, MIDI, AU formatted files).
RDP and ICA clients for Microsoft Terminal and Citrix® MetaFrame(TM) servers are also bundled with the Atigo L, which allow it to be used as a mobile thin-client computing device.
The Atigo L measures 7.9 x 9.4 inches and weighs 1.8 pounds including battery. The Atigo has more processing power, measures 7.9 x 9.6 inches and weighs approximately 2.3 pounds.
The Atigo product family is currently available directly from Xybernaut and through Team Xybernaut(TM) -- the Company's community of more than 100 value added resellers (VARs) and systems integrators. Pricing for Atigo hardware starts at $1,795 depending on the configuration and accessory options chosen by the customer.
