TSMC signs on M+W Zander to build fab in China, says report

HSINCHU, Taiwan -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) here has reportedly signed a $200 million contract with German engineering consulting company Meissner and Wurst Zander to build its first wafer fab in China, according to the China Economic News Service (CENS) of Taiwan.

Under the terms, M+W Zandar will build the clean rooms, wastewater treatment systems, and electrical engineering systems for TSMC in China, according to the report.

Last week, silicon foundry giant TSMC said it signed a letter of intent with a company to build a wafer fab in the Songjiang district of Shanghai. At the time, however, TSMC did not disclose the name of the contractor (see Aug. 29 story ).
