I use two sets of charts
(a) with PPO and ADX
(b) with OBV and ADX

PPO is virtually identical to MACD. May even be identical.

The reason I like OBV is that it brings the volume dimension into consideration.

I agree that the oscillators (MACD, PPO, Stochs) will usually turn before the ADX gives an "unambiguous" signal. I don't like stochs on short term charts because they are too "noisy"

My approach is not to do much trading, in fact, as little as possible and I try to run with the major movements which may, indeed, last many years. That's why I like the last chart which you posted which, in fact, is very similar to some of the heavyweights.

Nonetheless, I do look at all kinds of analysis, short medium and longterm, if only as an intellectual exercise.
