Though this column of Krugman's is about economic issues, particularly social security, he offers us a lesson in how to read foreign policy pronouncements as well. Closely, with a great deal of skepticism.

I watched the Torricelli-Forrester New Jersey Senate race debates last night. F previewed the new Republican line about how they were not in favor of privatization. Torricelli made an excellent point that the policy remained the same; the Reps were just trying to change the label. F had no reply for that.

As was the case throughout the debate.
