Brian, differentiating so much between the leaders makes the analyst seem wise, that's all. G. [end]

Brian,

Here's an old analysis I did when I used to track ML's
research. Keep in mind that to get ML's highest rating of
1-1 a stock's expected appreciation needed to be just 20%.
Yet the analyst here (FitzGerald), tried to be cute and
finesse the ratings. A 2-2 is supposed to go up <20%.
(The list only includes stocks whose ratings didn't change
during the period measured.)

Ticker Rating 1 yr Perf. (2/8/99 open to 2/8/00 open)

KLAC 1-1 138.5%
AMAT 1-1 141.8%
NVLS 1-1 132.8%
Buy/Buy Average 137.7%

CMOS 2-1 255.5%
TER 2-1 156.4%
BRKS 2-1 152.5%
AEIS 2-1 113.0%
Accum/Buy Average 169.4%

LRCX 2-2 279.7%
SVGI 2-2 60.2%
Accum/Accum Avg 170.0%
