What he didn't know and when he didn't know it is a question for the ages.

Naah, it is coming out now. There are just too many people taking notes, (especially before the Clinton Administration,) and Ron's involvement will out. I was reading, recently, the opening remarks between Ollie and the pigtailed, "Hippy", Democratic Majority Lawyer for the '87 hearing. Truncated, from memory:

Lawyer: "Lt North, was the date, (the day the scandal broke,) the worst day of your life?

Ollie: "I am a Lt Colonel. You may call me "Colonel." The worst days of my life were when I lost Marines, who were under my command, in Battle."

After that, the hearings were a "downhill slide" for the Dems.
