5.7% ain't too bad any way you look at it. Didn't read the article, but if it came from increased federal workforce, wouldn't that be because of the demo plan for fed workers at airports? You know, the ones who are getting 15 minutes of training on the bomb detecting equipment.

The private sector is still cutting jobs. What else can they do with their overpaid staff? They have no pricing power and even if Greenspan takes interest rates down to zero; U.S. manufacturing won't be competitive.

Overcapacity will take years to wind down.
