To me, the mark that Barrett leaves is the focus on execution and delivering products when promised. You see this on the manufacturing side as Intel is the leader here (after a rough 1999-2000). You also see this on the bottom line as Intel consistently pulls out one profitable quarter after another, even in the face of collapsing prices.

Grove had the vision, and Barrett has the execution. His successor, most likely Otellini, will have the marketing know-how that you'd probably prefer. Seems like an appropriate mix of strengths, each coming right at the very times they're needed. It's almost uncanny.
